Great Explorers

Brief: To research previous explorers/expeditions and create a piece of communication design that captures the content in a new and exciting way that draws in the selected target audience

Idea: Royal Museums Greenwich have an expedition of famous explorers within their National Martime Museum. This museum also has its own gift shop that contains products that link to the contents of the museum, available to be bought both online and in their shop. The target audience is people interested in famous expeditions and therefore have visited the National Martime Museum to learn more. As they already have an interest in explorers and what they do/find, this is therefore the perfect place for them to be sold. There would be a small description of Nellie and her trip next to the print which allows people to read about her along with a QR code that takes you to her topic page on their website.

Outcome: Example of an individual postcard in relation to Bly’s visit to Yokohama. This was the last location she visited before returning back to the U.S. The numbers on the bottom of each postcard bring attention to the day in which she was in this location, out of the 72 days she spent travelling, as well as the date. The block colours imitate stamps and how the simple shapes come together to create one outcome.
